Kai Greene and Other Thoughts

Posted on 09 November 2009 by Admin

I just finished reading Kai Greene’s column in Muscular Development (this months copy) and man I have to say that this guy is dedicated.

I know the other pros train hard, but Kai, in my opinion, took it to the extreme.

You know who Kai reminds me of?

Michael Jordan.

I say this because MJ came into each and every season, in incredible shape.

Jordan left nothing to chance when it came to winning.

Sure he probably outclassed the other players, and could have got by on his natural talent alone, but no, that was not good enough for MJ, he wanted to make sure that he knew he did everything in his power to win,

And win he did.

Same goes for Mr. Greene.

Yes, I know he only, if memory serves, got fourth, but and at least at the end of day, Kai can look back and say that he did everything in his power to win the Mr. Olympia this year.

Also, I would like to say this.

With his work ethic, Mr. Greene, chances are, will win a Mr. Olympia, before he is through competing.

And I for one hope that he does.

After reading about what he had to go through to get to the pros, he deserves it.

Which leads me to my second topic.

Branch Warren.

I know I talked about Branch not long ago, but I feel he is right up there with Kai in the fact that he is one of the hardest working pros out there.

If I remember correctly, I know Branch has had and injury and it would have been easy for him to say, oh well, I’ve had enough, but no, Branch continued to push on, and it got him a second at the 2009 Mr. Olympia.

I will say it again, that surprised me.

You know what would be awesome.

For everybody to come back next year healthy.

That would make for one heck of an awesome Mr. O.

Lastly, I have to give Muscular Development its due.

They always are showcasing the young talent in bodybuilding and to me this is great.

This is exactly what they should be doing, and hopefully it will get more people interested in bodybuilding.

That’s it for today.

Oh No Not This Again

Posted on 03 November 2009 by Admin

I know that I always seem to harp on injuries and it is true that I do.

I do this because injuries really can wipe out your training.

Not only can they wipe out your training, but they also, can zap your desire to train, after all you might think,

Why should I bother going to the gym, when I really cannot put in a good workout.

And then you know what happens, you start thinking, well if I cannot train why should I bother to eat clean.

Before you know it you’ve gained a ton of weight, and even when the injury is healed you just never seem to find your self back at the gym.

Sure you mean to, but something always seems to get in the way, school, work, you know there is ALWAYS something that prevents you from going to the gym.

You might be asking yourself,

What got into me today, talking about injuries and the like?

Well I was reading the new issue of Muscular Development Magazine (a great magazine if you haven’t yet picked up a copy you should) and in it Ron Harris does an interview with Seth Feroce.

In the interview, Seth says, that he slightly tore his pec.

And that little bit of info got me thinking about injuries—again.

Seth seems to have a bright future ahead of him in the sport, but who knows what could have happened.

He could have sustained a terrible tear and that could have ended his competitive career.

I realize that it does not have to be a pec tear, but those are the injuries that you most often read about.

And this is because people like to load up on the weights for bench presses and say that they have a huge bench.

A FEW COMMENTS

For all of you young bucks out there who have dreams of becoming pro bodybuilders, remember, your muscles do not care about how much you just lifted.

Nope they really don’t.

Yes, you must always challenge the muscles to do more, but only when you can lift more weight in good form.

You’d be much better off leaning to feel the muscle working and getting a good contraction and stretch in the muscle.

Not just about getting the weight, you are using, from point A to point B—by any means possible.

Remember bodybuilding is not power lifting.

Mark Alvisi 2009 Overall USA Champion

Posted on 05 October 2009 by Admin

Picked up the latest issue of Muscular Development Magazine and went through the interview that Ron Harris did with Mark Alvisi and wanted to comment on it.

First congratulations to Mark as this is a major accomplishment because of course, while you want to do damage in the pro ranks—you have to get there first, and this win got Mark his pro card.

Second, despite the fact that most people were saying that Mark was sure thing to turn pro, I’ve been following this sport for a LONG time, and have seen guys that were sure-to-turn-pro, get second and then third, and then second, and well you know the story, they just never got over-the-hump.

Third, it seems like Mark has a good head on his shoulders and knows what he needs to do to improve—and obviously he did the job from last year because he got his pro card.

My opinion of his physique is that while he has wonderful shoulders, he needs bring up his chest a bit, and add some more to his legs, especially the inner thighs.

Also, and this is just from the pictures I’ve seen in the magazines, Mark needs to keep an eye on his waist so that it does not get bigger.

But as stated above, I think Mark has a good head on his shoulders and knows what needs to be done—and will do it.

Plus, I feel he his doing it the right way, take some time off to put on some size and then compete.

To me competing just for the sake of it is not really worth it.

SOME COMMENTS

You must congratulate Steve Blechman the publisher and editor-in-chief or Muscular Development Magazine as he has put together a fine collection of young bodybuilders that can be battling-it-out for top honors at shows for years-to-come.

With Mark Alvisi, Evan Centopani, Erik Fankhouser, and probable soon-to-be pro Branden Ray.

Not-to-mention Dennis Wolf.

All of the above young men are just that, young, and will be around this sport for years to come.

Also, to be honest, Muscular Development Magazine has tons of great info in it every month, for guys like me, and I’m sure thousands of other young and not so young men, who simply love training, and want to learn everything they can to improve them selves, but have no desire to compete.

CONCLUSION

Congrats, again to Mark Alvisi on his overall win at the 2009 USA Championships and to Steve Blechman for putting together one heck of a magazine.
